Gairloch
In a separate table (Gairloch Farms) I have assembled various early lists of farms in Gairloch. These are drawn from the Exchequer Rolls, Retours and RMS VII (2078) 1619. Between 1535 and 1569 the lists are the same and I have used these as the basis for the first 13 place-names in my table. From 1619 we have some more place-names and these are entered in the lower rows of the table.
Dixon (pp 60-1) has analysed and matched the place-names and I follow many of his suggestions. Gordon(ES) = Gordon/Blaeu Extima Scotiae

Kirktoun
The name Kirktoun (a Scottish rather than Gaelic name) appears as early as 1535. The manse and church are in NG 8076 whilst Ord na h-Eaglaise is at NG 8075. The Gordon/Blaeu map of Extima Scotiae refers to it as Heglis Gherloch. The notes in Macfarlane’s Geographical Collections Vol. II p 539 (taken from Pont’s papers) refer to ‘Clachan-can-Gherloch, with a kirk’. Roy’s Protracted Copy marks ‘Kirk’ and ‘Ardclachai(n)’.
Hamgildaill
This farm is spelled variously Hoyngildaile (1535), Hoyngildaile (1535-6), Hoyngildal (1562-3), Hamgildaill (1566), Haingildaill (1566-7), Hayningdaill (1569), 2 Oyngiddillis (1619), 2 Oyngadelles (1638), Ingadill in Gordon/Blaeu Extima Scotiae. Macgill, No 415, pp 162-3, gives Engdadill more and Engdagill glas c. 1660-70. Roy’s Protracted Copy shows Engdaleles(s) and Engdalemor on either side of the river in what is now Flowerdale.
Sandagann
Dixon pp 60-1 says Sandecorran is Big Sand but it seems more likely that the farm called Two Sands represents Big & Little Sand. ER XVI p 597, 1535 gives ‘Binas Sandeis’; Retours (3) gives ‘Beinsanderis’; Retours (4) gives ‘Binas, Sandersmaill’; Retours (87) gives ‘Tua Sandis’. ‘Beinsanderis’ is a corruption of ‘Binas’ (i.e. 2) ‘Sands’. ‘Binas, Sandersmaill’ is a corruption of ‘Binas Sands’ followed by the separate farm of ‘Mial’. The muddle is compounded by the Gordon/Blaeu map Extima Scotiae. Sanda is marked west (i.e. N) of Erdull (North Erradale) which might imply Sandagann. However it is marked opposite Yl. Lunga (Longa Island) which is where Big & Little Sand are located. See also PNRC p 227.
Glasletter
There is a Meall a’ Ghlas-Leothaid at NG 8670 but I think it is more likely to be Coille na Glas-Leitire at NG 9964 which was near the south-eastern boundary of the parish.
Tornagullan
This is likely to be Torran Cuilinn which is marked on both the north and the east sides of Loch Coulin in OS 6″ 1st Series Ross-shire (Mainland) Sheets LXXXIII & XCIV, 1875.
Erradale
There is an Erredill in RMS VII (2078) 1619 and an Erredell in Retours (Ross) (87) 1638 but it is not clear which one since the farms are not listed in geographical order.
