The name Dochanassie may be ‘Dabhach an Fhasaidh’ (Forbes: Place-names of Skye p 189; Macmillan: Bygone Lochaber pp 27 & 257). A significant portion was held by the MacMartins. Macfarlane’s Geographical Collections II gives ‘Dawghnassie’ (p 170), ‘Daughnassie’ (p 523). In the Rental of the Lordship of Huntly 1600 it is Dauchenessye.

By 1648 the MacMartins seem to have held a 9m estate. There is a listing on pp 48-9 of the Lochiel Inventory for 1683 and a rental for 1740 in GD44/26/11/3. The farms include Tartanish, Letterfinlay, Inskiliroy, Invergloy, Stronegloy, Bolvoch, Stroneba, Torneas, Muccomer and Achveiry. Although this seems to include much of Glen Gloy it is probable that some of the latter’s assessment has been lost. Macfarlane’s Geographical Collections II pp 170 & 523 make it clear that Glen Gloy (‘Glenley’) was reckoned as 6 merkland in the 1590s.
