SHS Sutherland Estate Management Vol 1, Report by P Sellar 1811 Section IV, Lands in Parish of Dornoch, is important in giving us a detailed breakdown of the individual holdings. Unfortunately we can only derive land-assessment data from some of the names:- Davochfin (includes davach), Leadoch (=leth-davach or half-davach) and Fourpenny (4d). In the same volume are further lists from 1808, 1815 and 1811-16.

 

Fortunately we have early evidence for this parish from the 1275 agreement between the Bishop of Caithness and the Earl of Sutherland. We then have a charter of 1360 which gives us information about the 16 davach Torboll estate – half of which lay in Dornoch parish.

 

The table gives a total of about 35 davachs for Dornoch parish although it may have been slightly more or less than this since I am not always sure when one assessment includes another.
