Park Farm or Forest of Lewis

This was enormous and included the following on Johnson’s map of 1821:

Craigberry = Craig na Beirighe (NB 2911)

Kaundehalig = ?Ceann Loch Shealg (NB 3010)

Rornish = ?Budhanais (NB 3309)

Valines = Bhalamus (NB 2901)

Clay = Gleann Claidh (NB 2506)

Baremsavay = Bagh Reimseabhaidh (NB 2502)

Scalladale Beg (NB 2209)

Scalladale More (NB 2112)

R(u?)inigal = Bruinagil (NB 2715)

Shader (Barvas parish)

Lawson (2008) pp 68 & 71 states that there were 3 components to ‘na seachd peighinnean’ (the seven pennylands) of Siadar/Shader. These were Upper Shader, Lower Shader and Begnigearraidh. The 1754 rental gives 7d for the two Shaders – with Begergery as a separate ½d. The document from 1765 gives Upper Shader as 4d whilst Nether Shader and Begergary are linked in another 4d.

Dell

Dell seems to have remained intact as an ounceland from the eleventh until at least the eighteenth century, and intact as a davach for perhaps many centuries longer.

An Cnoc Ard

Lawson (2008) p 31 states this was originally named Garenin which was near Loch Stiapabhat. I have separated them on the grounds that Blaeu marks them as two separate places, each with a settlement symbol.

Shader (Eye parish)

On OS 1st Series 6″ Sheet 21 (1848-9) Shadir is marked about where Sulaisiadar is marked on Explorer 459 now – c. NB 535350. Sulair Shadir was a little north at NB 535355.
