(1) Book of the Thanes of Cawdor pp 87-8, 29/1/1497-8. In this document it is sold by the Lindsays to the Earl of Argyll. In 1507 it was sold by Argyll to the Fentouns of Ogill – RMS II (3158) 1507. This suggests the Fentouns had a continuing interest in these lands.

(2) Sanwalle in Glenconwich = Seanval or ‘OldTown’.

(3) This column is a composite drawn from the data in ER XI p 390 p 446 1499, pp 352-3 1499-1500. This may be the quarter-estate that originally belonged to Joneta Fentoun and was exchanged by her for the lands of Kinclevin.

(4) The only substantive difference between the columns appears to be the proportion of Belladrum (¼ in 1497, 1/16th in 1499, ⅛ 1509). I think the explanation lies in the fact that ¾ Belladrum and Little Culmill were often joined. There are no references to Culmill in 1497, 1501 & 1509 but it may be that part of Culmill is hidden in the value which is given.

(5) Conwich mor, Sanwalle and Glen de Conweth should be treated together as parts of the lay davach of Convinth. In ER XI p 446 there are separate entries for ‘Estir Conwecht’ (1¼m) and ‘Glen de Conweth vocatus le Auldtoun’ (i.e. called the Old Town), (1¼m). In other words the lay davach of Convinth was divided into two half-davachs. One was called Easter Convinth or Convinth Mor. The other was called Glen of Convinth or the Old Town.

(6) Ardellane

(7) Phopachy and Bunchrew. Appathy of 1497 = Phopachy. They were each half a davach.

(8) RMS II (3184) 1507-8 on original of 1501

(9) Moniak only appears in this document so I do not think it was part of the Fentoun estate that was quartered.

(10) RMS II (3531) 1510-11 on original of 1509

(11) In the case of Belladrum & Inglistoun it looks as if the Fentouns only ever owned ¼ of the farms.
