The Parish of Nigg, Nigg WRI, 1967
Some of the documents concerning properties in Nigg parish include an obligation to build, repair and maintain the yair (tidal fish-trap) of Kincardine. This obligation is defined as proportionate to the rate and quantity of the plough and davoch lands of the barony of Nigg (e.g. GD86/373 of 1607). It is likely to have been a very ancient obligation, as also the land-assessments it refers to. ‘The Parish of Nigg’, 1967, p 34 refers to the obligation on each oxgate to carry heather to repair the kirk in 1707.
(For another yair with similar conditions see under Kiltearn).
The table shows Nigg had a minimum of 11½ davachs.
