1¼m Kilcattanemoir in RMS IV (1272) of 1558 – instead of the expected Karremoir as in RMS III (3085) of 1545. RHP 2992 shows that Upper is to NE, Lower is to SW.

Bollevery

2½m

(1/4 land)

1541     These two farms appear together as 2½m in 1541, 1610, 1642 & 1667. Blaeu gives Bahiaclyf which looks like baile + chlibhe. Presumably both were near to Maol Chlibhe.
Maol Chlibhe     NR 3594/3694
Macherenecleue 1¼m 1545     Maychrenaclewe is 1¼m in 1558. Machracloif is 10s 4d in 1751 which is probably a mistake for 16s 4d or 1¼m. The name must be for machair + chlibhe.
Balivourich (1¼m) 1751     This is probably the Bollevery of 1541. With Kerramore as 2½m in 1751. Bw(a)ll Vurich at 4 ‘Kerrowrand’ in 1642. Also ‘half pleuch’ of Bellawuriche in 1642.

Scalasaig

Half of Scalasaig was given to the officer in 1541. This was the fee to the local agent whose duties probably included collecting the rents. In Colonsay the officer received a 1/16th land – exactly the same as the officer in Cnoc Breac in Jura in the same year. In Morvern in 1541 (ER XVII p 645) the officer received a 20s land (Innermore) and in a Morvern rental of 1671 (HP I p 285 ff) there is reference to the officer’s ‘Lippennce’ (half-pennyland). In eighteenth-century rentals this person is often referred to as the ‘ground officer’ and he still retains a piece of ground as his fee.

Karremoir

Not repeated in RMS IV (1272) of 1558 when it is replaced by 1¼m Kilcattanemoir instead. However it recurs as 1¼m Keremore in AS II (693) of 1642. With Balivourich as 2½m in 1751. Blaeu marks it just S of Bahiaclyf and just N of Machriber.

Balletow

Balletow only appears in RMS III (3085) of 1545 & RMS IV (1272) of 1558 – when only half of Ardskenish is listed. In the first section of ABA FH 235, which is a rental of 1642, the two halves of Ardskenish are given as North and South. In the second section the following two names appear – Bellitebairdskeinis and Bellindeish. I think the first is an amalgam of Baile + tuath + Ardskenish (township + north + Ardskenish) whilst the second is a version of Baile + deas (township + south).
