duas denariatas terre mee de Kamesnemiclach et de Hacheteyhewyne – Inventory of Lamont Papers No 10 c. 1295. (See also NAS RH2/2/14/3).

2d of my lands of Camusnamucklach and of Achadachoun

Inventory of Lamont Papers No’s 110 and 111 of 1530 refer to the two units together totalling 10m. No 267 of 1568 refers to 6m Auchatychewin and 4m Cames. Achadachoun is consistently given as 6m between 1568 and 1665. Kames is consistently 4m between 1568 and 1751.

Achinselloch

Achinselloch is 2½m with Dowglennane in 1519 & 1538-9, 1588 & 1600, 1m in 1554, 3m in 1588, 1658 and 1751.

Auchnaskeioch

The Reddendo for Auchnaskeioch in ILP (1445) of 1568 includes the phrase “(and) all other things reasonably to be payed at the entrie in any penny land according to use and wont in the countrie of Kerriff”.

Kilfinan

dimidietatem nummate terre ad ecclesiam de Kyllinan pertinentem cum jure patronatus ejusdem ecclesie (Paisley Register p 138)

half-pennyland belonging to the church of Kilfinan along with the right of patronage

Auchagoyle

The situation with Auchagoyle is confusing. The only Auchagoyle on the maps today is at NR 9670. This is marked by Langlands as Achgoyls and seems to appear in the Argyll Valuation Roll for 1751 as Achghyll (with no value specified).

However Langlands also marks Auchagoyle SSW of Kilfinan and WNW of Drum. It is perhaps an old name for what is now Otter House at NR 9278. This Auchagoyle appears frequently in the records worth 4m in 1499, 1536, 1537, 1538-9, 1554, 1597, 1643 and 1646. It also appears as 1d in 1356 but as £4 (or 6m) in 1569, 1665, 1668 and 1751. AS II (1404) of 1668 refers to a pendicle called Tynatrossine.

It is also uncertain whether the 4m of Auchagoyle supported a chapel there or just a chaplainry at Kilfinnan. (See Argyll VII p 106 & p 544 No 61 note 7). For instance ILP No 16 of 1356 says:

1d Achagangaill in the tenement of Kerelve … bought for 100m of good sterlings … assigned for finding and sustaining for ever 1 chaplain … in the Kirk of St Fynan there, and that the said land was for many years in possession of the chaplain there.

OPS II, I p 51 note 10 wonders whether the ruins at Ardmarnock represent the chapel of Auchgoyle. (cf Argyll VII No 4)

Dewars

Argyll Retours No 6 of 1599 refers to

pecia terrae vocata Aiker-Indeor extendente ad dimidiam mercatam terrae, jacente in terris de Ballemoir, dominio de Otter …  AE 6s 8d.

a piece of land called the Dewar’s Acre, extending to ½m in Ballemoir, Lordship of Otter … 6s 8d Old Extent
