W Fraser, Chiefs of Colquhoun and their Country, Vol II, Edinburgh, 1869

With the post-Reformation break-up of the lands belonging to Paisley Abbey we can hope to trace some of the lands which are not readily identifiable in earlier listings. See for instance Charter Chest of the Earldom of Dundonald No 143, 1587 where over 40 merklands are feued for the first time.

Documents referring to teinds lay out the core of properties regarded as comprising East Kilpatrick. Argyll Sasines II (1534) 1669, Retours (Dumbarton) (66) 1669 and (77) 1685 list Summerston, Mallichen, Boclair, Dougalston, Kayston, Milngavie, Barrachan, Barloch, East & West Clobar, Kessington, Auchincloch, Hilton and Auldmarroch.

My table gives 146¾m for East Kilpatrick parish but there are gaps in the record.  it was probably a minimum of 5 carucates.
