SHS Sutherland Estate Management Vol 1 Report by P Sellar 1811 Section VII, Lands in Parish of Clyne, is important in giving us a detailed breakdown of the individual holdings. The report gives us some information about land-assessment such as the fact that part of Doll was a 3 pennyland while another farm bore the name Leadoch which is probably for ‘leth‘ (half) + davach. Another still was called Easter Kerrow where ‘Kerr-‘ may be for ceathramh or quarterland. In the same volume are further lists from 1808, 1815 and 1802-16.

There is a tiny loch at the watershed, (flowing E into the R. Brora), called Loch Dabhaich (NC 5922). It probably marked a davach boundary.

The table shows at least 21 davachs for Clyne parish.

In the Exchequer Rolls account of 1509-10 there were only 5 farms (out of 112) which rendered iron as part of the rent. All five were in Clyne parish which suggests the area specialised in iron-production.

NLS Acc.10225/2(1) Allotments in the Parish of Clyne, 1821, with accompanying key, is important in showing the names and number of small rural settlements in earlier times.
